San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals: Joe Montana’s Winning Drive

Posted by on September 25, 2011 in Uncategorized | 1 comment

On Sunday the San Francisco 49ers will play the Cincinnati Bengals in a fairly benign 2011 match-up between two teams who are not going anywhere this year – or in the foreseeable future.

However we couldn’t help but reminisce through our rose-colored glasses to the time when these two teams played for it all in Super Bowl XXIII (1989).

The Bengals were two minutes from their first title ever but Joe Montana had the football and 92 yards to go in one of the best last-minute drives in Super Bowl history.

And poor Sam Wyche. Not only did his team lose, but he’s on the sidelines in a terrible sweater and a mesh trucker’s hat.
